The importance of AMPP industrial coating certifications

The importance of AMPP industrial coating certifications

The structural integrity of your assets is too important to leave to untrained painters. Industrial coatings must be applied correctly to prevent corrosion on bridges, water towers, manufacturing facilities, pulp and paper mills, and other structures.

The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is the largest international community for corrosion and coatings expertise. AMPP was formed by a merger between NACE International and SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings in 2021. AMPP certification programs are designed to make sure painting contractors and their workers are fully trained on all aspects of industrial coatings.

Industrial coating contractors

AMPP offers Quality Procedures (QP) programs that cover coatings application and removal in the field.

  • QP 1 – Field Coating Application
QP 1 is designed to help facility owners and specification writers determine whether a contractor has the ability to perform surface prep and coating application in the field on complex industrial and marine structures.
  • QP 2 – Field Coating Removal
QP 2 builds on QP 1 to further qualify contractors for their ability to safely remove and properly manage hazardous coating material in the field.

Industrial painters

AMPP offers a Coating Application Specialist (CAS) certification program, which is designed to ensure individual craft workers have experience and training in all aspects of hands-on surface prep and coating application of complex industrial and marine structures. CAS certification also meets the requirements of ISO 17024.

  • CAS Level I certification is for entry-level/trainee Application Specialists.
  • CAS Level 2 certification is for experienced Application Specialists.

When you evaluating industrial coating contractors for your projects, or are putting together specs for future projects, make sure you including AMPP certifications for contractors and workers. You’ll have piece of mind knowing your assets are protected from corrosion and related problems.

Add FSN to your bid list or contact us today at (410) 564-5876 or sales@FinishingSolutionsNetwork.com to be matched with certified industrial coating contractors in your area. We can furnish QP 1 and QP 2 certified industrial coating contractors that employ CAS certified workers who know how to prevent corrosion on your structures.
