Design trends come and go. One design trend that has a lasting impact is incorporating elements from your local area into your property. Designers have a lot of options when it comes to incorporating local elements, and we often see local touches when we work on properties for our clients. We’d like to share a few examples here.

At the Omni Louisville Hotel, Kentucky touches are found throughout the property. Designers infused the architecture, textures and color palettes of the area into room designs. There are deep amber and ice tones in guest rooms, reflective of bourbon and water, with oval nightstands shaped like bourbon barrels and carpets reminiscent of the fluidity of bourbon.

The Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center near the Denver International Airport uses inspiration from the Rocky Mountains throughout the property. The centerpiece is a 75-foot-tall atrium window that provides incredible views of the Denver skyline and the Rocky Mountains. Design features include rustic rooms with modern amenities, carpets that emulate aspen trees, and elevators that look like old mine shafts.

The TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy Airport has a more unique design inspiration. Because the property is on the National Register for Historic Places, much of the original terminal and historic pieces were reimagined into a luxury hotel. The TWA terminal was designed by architect Eero Saarinen and opened in 1962, so the hotel, restaurants, bars, and community areas pay homage to the 1960s and midcentury modern design movement. To keep guests from being overwhelmed by runway noise, the soundproof windows are the second-thickest in the world.
